Future Equestrian stars: giving them a leg up
23 November 2013
story by Kate Beveridge: WAIS and West Coast Fever Netballer

Today I had the pleasure of working with 8 of Australia's up and coming equestrian superstars. Set in the pleasurable surrounds of the State Equestrian Center in the Swan Valley I was genuinely excited to get started.

The 3.5 hr session was jam packed of incredibly useful information ranging from dealing with stress, managing expectations and identifying current and future goals. The group had some really engaging athletes who participated excellently and were a pleasure to work with.

There were some very interesting lessons gained from today's session and you could see the similarities between a number of riders. The main one being the relatively relaxed and calm state of all riders before their events thus far into their career. This was replicated with all athletes identifying themselves as having a Type B personality (lives at a lower stress level).

After an enjoyable stop for lunch, which was spent watching the vaulting competition in the main arena, we returned to the session to tackle the 'My Pathway' section. It was positive to see all athletes had a clear idea of the pathway they were wanting to embark on and with the help of Kate Bobridge and some excellent examples they all left with a great understanding of what they will need to achieve in order to do so.
