ARTICLE: Social Media Background Checks for Athletes on the Rise
27 July 2015
Passing a Social Media Background Check Is More Important Than an NFL Prospect's 40 Time.
This article discusses the shift of an increased prevalence of background checks (social media based) that talent scouts now employ in the NFL over more traditional methods of Football based statistic and analysis. Athlete's reputations before they are even considered for recruitment are becoming increasingly important.
The article quotes "A prospect’s tweets, posts, and snapchats are just as important in 2015 as his on-field measurables at the NFL Combine. And like scouts crowding around the cone drill and the bench press, NFL talent evaluators are getting paid to closely monitor prospects online".
* for those non-NFL minded people the 40 time refers to the timing of an athlete doing a 40-yard dash as a performance measurement tool for running speed (and hence game application) in NFL.
