Junior Basketball Champions learn how to be a Champion from an Olympic Champion
6 February 2016

BASKETBALL, Foundation Core workshop; 6 February 2016

Bendat Basketball Centre

story by Gemma Beasworth, Water Polo, 2008 & 2012 Olympic bronze medallist, World Championship silver medalist

It was fantastic to be a part of the Developing Champions workshop with the State Basketball Development program and have the opportunity to meet up and coming athletes aspiring to reach the pinnacle of their sport.

In just two hours a range of topics were covered from life balance to characteristics of a champion athlete. What I found particularly interesting was the discussion on stress and how to manage it. This is definitely a reoccurring theme at any stage of your career and becomes increasingly important, impacting an athlete’s longevity if they do not learn how to manage and use stress to their advantage. I look forward to seeing familiar faces as a part of the Boomers and Opals in the years to come.
