WAFC: Foundation Elective Workshop

2 April 2016, All Saint's College
Story by Jaime Roberts, WAIS and Canoeing Australia Athlete

Early Saturday morning Garry Moss and myself had the pleasure of speaking to a small group of committed Womens AFL players. With the majority of the girls playing in a carnival in Northam to begin their season, the workshop still had a lot of value for the remaining. This workshop covered the importance of mental skills, communication and stress control in the game of AFL.

The young athletes were highly motivated from the beginning, using their creative skills to show what they can control and can't control in their lives on pieces of paper. The group highlighted some key stressors that need to be controlled for them to be able to perform at their best in every game. Garry took them through a relaxation drill involving imagery and breathe control whilst lying down, that can be implemented into their recovery routines.

I would like to wish all the girls the very best in the footy season. Great to see familiar faces again!!

Yeh the girls!!!
