GSSTA Foundations of My Success Workshop

26th March 2017, Albany
Story by Brant Garvey, WAIS Athlete and 2016 Rio Paralympian
Last 26th of March I got involved in my second Albany Developing Champions Workshop.
There are a few parts I really love about the Developing Champions workshops.

One is where we get the athletes to put their week into a planner, adding training, eating, school, sleep and other commitments. Then we work out really how much time they have a week and see if they are using time effectively or not. A lot were surprised to see how much time they had available.

The other is the goal setting. The reason I am so passionate about the goal setting is because I attribute a lot of my success to setting goals. It's great that we get the athletes to set small and large, short and long term goals and how they lead to achieving the overarching goal. It's also great to have the athletes set life goals outside of sport.

There were so many great young athletes in this workshop. I got invited by a couple of the swimmers to join them in a training session while in Albany, which was great fun, even though the extra tumble turns of the 25m pool punished me.
Looking forward to seeing these athletes take on the world!
